Lower Back Pain

Cliff Russell of Osteo Studio is experienced in treating lower pain and its associated symptoms.

There are several different types of low back pain.
Cliff Russell is a qualified,
East Grinstead Osteopath and can offer advice on dealing with your pain.

Muscular Strain:

This is a common cause of low back pain and often occurs due to improper lifting, sudden movements, or overuse of the back muscles. Osteopathic treatment may involve soft tissue techniques, stretching and advice on posture and body mechanics.

Herniated Disc:

A herniated or slipped disc happens when the soft cushioning material (disc) between the vertebrae ruptures or bulges. Osteopathic treatment might include gentle spinal manipulation, mobilization, and exercises to strengthen the supporting muscles.

Postural Imbalances:

Poor posture, such as slouching or sitting for prolonged periods, can contribute to low back pain. An osteopath may provide advice on ergonomics, prescribe exercises to strengthen core muscles, and use manual techniques to release tension in the affected areas.

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the leg. It is commonly caused by a herniated disc or spinal stenosis. Osteopathic treatment may involve spinal adjustments, stretching, and nerve mobilization techniques.

Osteoarthritis:

Also known as degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis affects the joints and can cause low back pain. Osteopaths use gentle joint mobilization techniques, muscle strengthening exercises, & provide lifestyle advice to manage pain and improve mobility.

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction:

The sacroiliac joints, located at the base of the spine, can become dysfunctional, causing pain in the low back and buttocks. Treatment may involve joint mobilization, muscle energy techniques, and stabilization exercises.
